ABSTRACT
Background: The skin is an organ that covers the entire human body, and has the power to
protect against outside influences. The skin is very supportive of a person's appearance so it
needs to be cared for, maintained, and maintained health. Vitamin C as an antioxidant works to
capture free radicals present in the skin. Antioxidant molecules serve as a source of hydrogen
that will bind to free radicals, therefore it can be used as moisture in the form of hydrogels using
gelling agent Carbopol.
Research Objectives: This study aims to determine the influence of gelling agent Carbopol levels
(with concentrations of 0.5%, 1% and 2%) with vitamin C levels of 5% in each formula to the
physical characteristics of preparations.
Method: Gelling agent Carbopol formulated into hydrogel in 3 formulas, namely FI (content
0,5%), FII (level 1%) and FIII (rate 2%) with vitamin C levels of 5% in each formula. Physical
characteristic tests include organoleptic, viscosity, pH, and aseptability.
Result: Organoleptic test results for FI (0.5%), FII (1% and FIII (rate 2%) i.e. semi-solid, soft,
clear white and smell typical of Carbopol. From the results of the analysis One Way Anova
obtained results there are significant differences for viscosity and pH.
Conclusion: Based on the physical characteristics of vitamin C hydrogel preparations, obtained
F1 (gelling agent level 0.5%) , have the best physical characteristics in aseptability tests.
